Beer’s Black Cutting
Beer’s Black is an excellent variety, it has a breba and main crop. The breba is one of the best we have tasted. The main crop is also exquisite, a top Bordeaux berry type. It is a mid to late season fig. The breba crop ripens in mid-late July. The main crop ripens in early September.
The figs are “Closed eye” when ripe that helps resist splitting and souring. However, under heavy rain some splitting can occur specially on a young tree. The figs have a rich wine color, exceptionally beautiful. These are medium to large figs with a complex flavor. The main notes are dark berry and brown sugar. The pulp is sweet and buttery. The flavor and texture are both exquisite and rival any of the great sought-after figs.
This variety appears to grow mainly as a bush with elongated thin branches. The leaves have a distinctive pattern (long thin finger leaf shape).
